Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the record turnout in the presidential election speaks volumes about the level of support for President Vladimir Putin. In the last elections the turnout was 77.44%. The previous record for turnout in presidential elections was in 1991 in the presidential elections of the RSFSR (74.66%).

“The record turnout really speaks volumes about the level of support for the president,” a presidential spokesman said. When he was asked to assess the work of the Central Election Commission during the elections, Dmitry Peskov suggested waiting for the official results of the campaign. “Then we will congratulate our colleagues on their success… The Central Election Commission continues to work quite hard until the special announcement of the elections,” he said.

According to the latest data from the Central Election Commission, after processing 99.72% of the protocols, Vladimir Putin, as a self-nominated candidate, received 87.3% of the votes, Nikolai Kharitonov (Communist Party of the Russian Federation) – 4.3%, Vladislav Davankov (New People) – 3.83%, Leonid Slutsky (LDPR) – 3.21%. This year, for the first time since 2008, there are only four candidates on the ballot in the presidential election. The CEC will announce the final results on Thursday, March 21. This result was a record for Vladimir Putin; all previous four results in election campaigns were lower.
