Record snowdrifts have grown in the capital region. Evgeny Tishkovets, a leading specialist of the Phobos Center, announced this on his Telegram channel.
According to him, the height of the snow cover by Sunday morning at the main weather station in Moscow – VDNKh – reached 33 centimeters, and in the center of the metropolis, on Balchug – 38 centimeters. Thus, the daily record was updated. Even in the abnormally snowy December 1989, the snowdrifts were lower. In addition, such figures correspond to those in February, that is, so much snow in Moscow usually occurs at the very end of the calendar winter.
The snowdrifts were even higher in the east of the Moscow region. In Cherusty there is a layer of snow of 43 centimeters. The last time it snowed this much in December was in 2005.
