Recognized as a foreign agent, Rosbalt liquidates a legal entity due to economic problems

The legal entity RS-Balt JSC, the founder of the Rosbalt news agency (recognized as a foreign agent), has begun the process of liquidation. The corresponding entry appeared in the federal registry information about the activities of legal entities, “Lenizdat.ru”. The agency explained that the liquidation is connected with economic problems that began after the recognition of Rosbalt as a foreign agent.

The decision to liquidate was made at an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders of RS-Balt. The decision date is March 22. Larisa Afonina, CEO of Rosbalt, has been appointed chairman of the liquidation commission.

“We were appointed as a foreign agent, for two years we tried to achieve justice, because we believed that it was wrong, dishonest, but to no avail. We cannot continue to exist, because we simply simply do not have the money for this existence, ”said Ms. Afonina in a comment to Lenizdat.ru. According to her, after being included in the register, Rosbalt lost advertising revenue and grant money from the government of St. Petersburg.

The Rosbalt community on the Vkontakte social network has also ceased to be updated, Lenizdat.ru drew attention. The last post is dated December 2, 2022. At the same time, Twitter and the agency’s website continue to be updated.

“Rosbalt” made to the register of media-foreign agents in October 2021. Later it became known that the reason for his inclusion in the register was 90 thousand rubles, which the agency received from the analytical center “Sova” (recognized as a foreign agent) for renting a hall for a press conference, as well as quoting foreign media agents.
