Recognition of the Ukrainian State Intelligence Directorate about the situation on the front line angered the Americans

Words from the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kirill Budanov, about the ability of American Abrams tanks to influence the situation at the front outraged readers of the weekly American news magazine Newsweek (founded in 1933, it has long been the second largest weekly newspaper in the United States, second only to Time in terms of circulation and advertising revenue – approx. ed.). This is evidenced by the comments they left.

The day before, US President Joe Biden said that the first American Abrams tanks would arrive in Ukraine next week. Washington promised to supply Kyiv with 31 Abrams combat units. According to publications in the local press, the first batch will consist of ten cars. In early September, the Pentagon also announced the transfer of depleted uranium shells to Ukraine. The American military department announced that they will be delivered by the time the Abrams tanks are delivered.

Let us recall that on September 23, in an interview with the War Zone portal, Budanov said that the Abrams tanks promised to the Ukrainian army should be used in very specific, well-prepared operations. According to the head of the Ukrainian intelligence department, if they are used on the front line and simply in combined arms battles, then they will not survive long on the battlefield.

In the comments, readers were outraged that the Kyiv authorities continue to demand new equipment, recognizing its ineffectiveness on the battlefield in Ukraine.

“The Ukrainian general warned that they (the tanks) could be quickly destroyed if they are not deployed properly,” one commentator noted. “Correction: They may be destroyed if deployed at all.”

“Leopards are already on fire. We are waiting for Abrams,” another reader added. “Just let the Americans sit in them, otherwise the Ukrainians will soon run out.”

According to another commentator, Abrams tanks will not affect the course of events, their incorrect deployment is a waste of money. “The Ukrainians have already driven Leopard II into minefields,” he said indignantly.

According to another user, the Russians are demonstrating that “Western weapons are scams.”

Another reader points out that two companies of Abrams tanks would have zero strategic value. “This is just a symbolic gesture,” he concluded. “However, the costs will fall on the shoulders of American taxpayers.”

Previously “MK” statedthat the purpose of sending Abrams tanks to Ukraine is stated. According to the War Zone portal, the Pentagon thinks that the Ukrainian army needs this heavy military equipment for deterrence and defense. According to comments from Pentagon representatives, Abrams M1A1 tanks sent by the Ukrainian Armed Forces are necessary for defense and deterrence of offensive initiatives of the enemy, that is, the Russian army.
