The Russian Ministry of Defense has prepared a bill amending the federal law “On the Status of Servicemen”, which will expand the rights of servicemen under a housing contract. According to the project, the families of military personnel abroad and in “certain regions of Russia” will retain the opportunity to live in official or rented housing, regardless of the change in the place of service. Similar support measures may be introduced for members of the National Guard troops. This was reported RBC with reference to sources.
The Ministry of Defense proposes for military personnel under a contract outside Russia and in certain regions to secure the following rights:
- The right to be on the list of those in need of specialized housing.
- The right to be provided with company housing, dormitories or rented accommodation at the previous place of work, as well as to use previously provided housing.
- The right to cash compensation for rental housing if the department cannot provide service.
The government will determine later which military regions will be affected by these measures, as well as the procedure for calculating compensation for rent. In the explanatory note to the bill, the need for these measures is explained by the accession to Russia of the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions.
“In the light of the events taking place in the world and taking into account the admission to the Russian Federation of the Donetsk People’s Republic, the Lugansk People’s Republic, the Zaporizhzhia region and the Kherson region, there are cases when family members of a serviceman cannot follow to his place of military service on the territory of the Russian Federation,”— said in the document.
According to RBC, the bill was introduced by the head of the Ministry of Defense Sergei Shoigu on March 6 at a meeting of the government commission on legislative activities. It’s already been approved. When the initiative will be submitted to the State Duma, it is not reported.
