Acting Governor of the Omsk Region Vitaly Khotsenko chose three candidates to replace the current senator from the region, 68-year-old Elena Mizulina, reports RBC with reference to two sources familiar with the discussion of the issue.

The top three candidates included: Vadim Berezhnoy, head physician of the Clinical Medical and Surgical Center of the Ministry of Health of the Omsk Region, Yulia Chekhlova, an English teacher at secondary school No. 28, and Ivan Evstifeev, deputy head of the Sirius federal territory. Mr. Evstifeev is considering the main candidate, the sources said.

Earlier today, Spokesperson for the Acting Governor Mina Akhverdiyeva said TASS: “When submitting documents to the election commission of the Omsk region for registration as a candidate for the post of governor, Vitaly Khotsenko presented, among other things, a list of senators. Elena Mizulina is not on this list.”

In June RBC reportedthat Elena Mizulina will leave the Federation Council after a single voting day – September 10. Ms. Mizulina has been representing the Omsk region since 2015. Known for supporting the ban on LGBT propaganda and proposals to ban abortion and surrogacy.
