RBC: Russian authorities held another exercise to test the stability of Runet

Last night, from July 4 to 5, another exercise was held in Russia to ensure the safe and stable functioning of the Internet. About it writes RBC with reference to sources.

According to one of the interlocutors of the publication, during these exercises “the international Internet was turned off.”

The fact of the exercises was confirmed by a representative of Roskomnadzor, without specifying the details. RBC indicates that the representative of the department did not answer the question of what tasks were pursued when the international segment of the Internet was turned off this time. The representative of the department only said that “the exercises were successful,” and also recalled that, in accordance with the law “On the sovereign Runet,” exercises should be held at least once a year.

One of the publication’s sources in the telecommunications market stated that the declared task of the above law is to maintain the functionality of the Runet in case it is turned off from the outside. He believes that during the exercises “they could check whether the Runet is still working.”
