Rastorguev spoke about the “beginning of the end”: “We really needed money”

This year the Lube group celebrates 35 years since its founding. On this occasion, lead singer Nikolai Rastorguev, together with his colleagues and producer Igor Matvienko, met with journalists.

During the conversation, the artist was asked whether he himself believed in the number 35?

– I believe. This is how I figure it: it’s been a long, difficult journey, but somehow everything has flown by very quickly. Well, this is probably a property of the human psyche,” Rastorguev reflected.

“Some say: “This is just the beginning,” the presenter added.

“The beginning of the end,” Nikolai responded.

The singer and the producer also remembered how their collaboration began. It turned out that this happened after the New Year holidays on January 14.

“Nowadays the stars go on vacation, but before we weren’t stars and didn’t go anywhere on vacation. Moreover, we didn’t have money, and Nikolai didn’t have it, Shaganov did – he lent money, wrote songs, he was the richest,” Matvienko recalled. – We went to the studio first by train, then there was a Pyaterochka trolleybus. The first notes and pen attempts took place. We didn’t think about what would happen in a year, much less what would happen in 35 years.”

In turn, Rastorguev noted that at first Matvienko was not eager to work with him, but the singer showed character traits that were unusual for him.

“It was 1985, I worked at Rondo for six months, then left and started looking for work. I met with Sergei Mazaev, who was friends with Matvienko. Mazaev went to “Autograph”, but Matvienko in the end did not have a vocalist in the group “Hello, Song”. He didn’t want to take me because my image didn’t fit. Everyone there had long hair, but I had short hair. In general, I didn’t pass, although I sang decently at the audition. But I convinced him by hitting me. The group was going on tour, and I said: “I’m going with you.” And Matvienko gave in, apparently there was such pressure! Well, I was unemployed for quite a long time, I really needed money. In general, I am a very modest person, but it broke through for me. It was thanks to this light pressure that Igor took me on tour.”
