Reports of a powerful geomagnetic storm that is allegedly approaching the Earth are not true. Such a statement was made on Thursday, June 22, by a researcher at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences Sergey Bogachev.
As the scientist stressed, “there are international standards and assessments, and they show that any strong geomagnetic storms are practically excluded in the coming weeks,” the Moskva AGN reports.
Earlier, the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy said that on June 27 and 28 magnetic fluctuations are predicted, which will reach four points. Oscillations similar in power are also expected on July 1 and 8, and a real magnetic storm will hit the Earth in a few more days. On July 12, she will reach class G-1, and on July 13 will overcome the threshold of class G-2.
On the evening of June 20, for the first time in three months, an X-class flare was recorded on the Sun – this is the maximum power level for such phenomena. Experts allowed magnetic storms on Earthif this outbreak lasted until the weekend.
