RAS found out how the values of Muscovites and migrants differ – Kommersant

The main value for most migrants is a strong family and good children; for Moscow residents, a career. Writes about this RBC with reference to the survey results provided by the head of the department of socio-demographic processes of the EAEU Institute of Demographic Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
A strong family was named as the main value by 57% of respondents among migrants and 25% among Muscovites. Both groups surveyed put mutual love and respect in first place when it comes to family relationships. Career growth was named as the main value by 42% of capital residents versus 30.7% among migrants.
One of the main differences among representatives of the two surveyed groups in the Russian Academy of Sciences was revealed by the question of respect from others – 35% of people from Central Asia and 9% of Muscovites called this important. Such a value as “living by truth, conscience and justice” was classified as important by 27% of migrants and 15% of Moscow residents. For people from Central Asia, the value of unlimited freedom of speech and action turned out to be more important than for Muscovites (13% versus 6%).
Among Muscovites, the second most popular answer after career was “to live in peace, feel safe and not feel the threat of violence” (29%). Third place went to the option “to be a rich person so as not to deny yourself anything” (26.5%).
In September, the Federal Agency for National Affairs (FADN) stated that a significant proportion of Central Asian citizens in Russia do not want to comply with local legislation and prefer Sharia law. The head of the migration and ethnicity research group at RANEPA, Evgeny Varshaver, believes that FADN violated “important methodological rules” of sociological research and that the agency’s questions were formulated incorrectly.
