Rapid growth of meningococcal infection recorded in St. Petersburg

Rospotrebnadzor July 7 published statistics, according to which 17 people have been infected with meningococcal infection in St. Petersburg over the past six months.
In 2022, this number of cases was recorded for the whole year, and in 2021, during the same period, the infection was detected in only nine people.
Rospotrebnadzor informs that three of the cases are children. In addition, according to new statistics, a case with a fatal outcome was detected in the city.
“Vaccination is the only effective way to protect a child from meningococcal infection and its complications,” the ministry warns on its Telegram channel.
