In the Finnish border city of Lappeenranta, a rally took place whose participants demanded to open the border with Russia.
Dozens of protesters took part in the action, reports fontanka.ru.
Earlier, the head of the Vartius checkpoint on the Finnish-Russian border, Jouko Kinnunen, said that construction of barriers had begun at the border point. The border forces are being assisted in this by the military, reports the Yle portal with reference to Kinnunen. The Finnish Border Guard cited overcrowding at the checkpoint as the reason for closing the Vartius checkpoint.
Prior to this, Finland decided to close four checkpoints – Vaalimaa/Torfyanovka, Imatra/Svetogorsk, Niirala/Värtsilä and Nuijamaa/Brusnichnoe.
