Andrei Kartapolov, head of the State Duma Committee on Defense, said that the increase in the draft age to 30 years would be gradual. On July 25, the State Duma will consider a draft on raising the draft age to 30 years in the second and third readings.
“This will be done in stages… Starting from 2024, it will shift for a year, to January 1, 2026,” Andrey Kartapolov told reporters (quoted from “RIA News”).
On July 21, Andrei Kartapolov announced that the lower limit of the draft age would remain the same. Conscription into the Russian army will be from 18 to 30 years old, without a gradual increase in the lower bar to 21 years old, as expected. The norms will come into force from the spring call. On July 22, the heads of two committees of the Federation Council Viktor Bondarev and Andrey Klishas did not support plans of the State Duma to keep the lower border.
