Rain in Ulan-Ude almost disrupted the basketball tournament

Basketball fights dragged on for more than 12 hours

While the celebration of the City Day was taking place in the center of Ulan-Ude, serious sports battles unfolded in another part of it. On June 17, an open 3×3 basketball tournament “City Council Cup” was held at the sports grounds of the pedagogical college of the capital.

More than 60 teams from Irkutsk, Angarsk, Chita, Mongolia and Buryatia came to the tournament. In total, more than 200 people took part in the competition, and the games were held in four age categories – girls from 16 years old and older, boys from 16-18 years old, men from 19 years old and older and teams of men 40+.

The founder of the tournament was the Ulan-Ude City Council of Deputies, allocating 350 thousand rubles for the organization and the prize fund of the event, so the players had something to fight for, showing everything they are capable of.

Games were played at four venues at once. And for the sake of justice, it must be said that the audience and judges really did not have to be bored, because every one of the athletes gave their best to 100%.

The teams from Ulan-Ude “UUKZhT” and “Khovoroo” from Mongolia were among the first to enter the site. The local guys showed an excellent well-coordinated game and amazing teamwork. Almost every throw of the ball flew into the ring, and the players literally understood each other from a half-look. At times the game seemed to follow a pattern they were familiar with, as they anticipated the maneuvers of their Mongol rivals, skillfully parrying their daring attacks and antics.

As the guys from “UUKZhT” told me after the game, they played in the first league in the championship of Buryatia with exactly this line-up and took second place there.

– We represent the team of the Ulan-Ude College of Railway Transport. Our first game today was with the Mongolian team. They play very aggressively – they hit on the hands, push. Although, in 3×3 basketball this is allowed and is not considered a gross violation. In general, we can say that our sports ethics are not instilled in them. But it was not difficult to beat them, because they have little technicality. They just play with character and take, one might say, impudence.

From myself, as from today’s spectator, I can add that the players from Mongolia (with all their confidence) did not have enough accuracy – out of all their ball throws, only a third ended up in the coveted ring. As a result, the game ended in favor of UUKZhT with a score of 14/6.

On another site, a “battle” of two local teams from Ulan-Ude – “Armatura” and “BGU” unfolded. And almost at the very beginning of the game, the “Armatura” team was left without a reserve (fourth) player, because, while attacking an opponent, the athlete received an ankle injury, unsuccessfully twisting his right leg. After being examined by a doctor, the player still had to be taken to the emergency room. Now his team can only hope that this is not a fracture and because of the injury he will not fall out of the game for the entire season.

Dmitry Shishlov, master of sports and captain of the Angarskcement team from the Irkutsk region, said that he had been playing basketball for 30 years.

– We have formed a team on the basis of our enterprise “Angarskcement”, therefore we work together, and we also play basketball together. We are preparing for the tournament. We are determined to win and came only for the first place.

However, the Angarsk people still lost their first “fight” to our guys from “UUKZhT”. At first, their 10-minute game ended in a draw and the score was 15:15, but the allotted extra time played against them and Ulan-Ude still defeated them with a score of 17:16.

There were very few teams with the participation of the beautiful half of humanity, and they all represented Ulan-Ude. Their games were, perhaps, less dynamic compared to men’s, but some of the athletes were in no way inferior to them in technique. A decent game and excellent throws were shown by the girls from the UMMC team, beating their rivals (the Ruins team) with a devastating score of 16:1.

As for the weather, which the organizers were so worried about, it nevertheless made its own adjustments and the basketball tournament dragged on for 12 hours instead of 5-6 hours. Due to the rain, the players had to move to the closed area of ​​the ZMMK Cultural and Sports Complex. We will believe that tomorrow will be dry weather and continue second part of the tournamentplanned at the new sports ground of the 35th school on June 18, nothing will interfere.
