Quincy Promes caught on the “little white”

Forward of the Moscow “Spartak” Quincy Promes, against whom a criminal case of stabbing is already underway in his homeland, in the Netherlands, has become a defendant in a much more unpleasant story. The Dutch prosecutor’s office charged Promes with complicity in drug smuggling. We are talking about two parties with a total weight of 1370 kg. At the moment, Promes remains in Russia. On Saturday, Spartak will take part in the last round of the Russian championship. It seems that it will be difficult for Promes to return to his homeland.

The best scorer of Spartak this season, Quincy Promes (the Dutchman scored 20 goals in 26 matches – this is the second indicator in the Russian Premier League) has again become a defendant in a criminal story. Very loud this time. The Dutch prosecutor’s office, according to the portal AD.nl, charged Promes with complicity in drug smuggling. According to the prosecution, Promes committed the acts incriminated to him back in 2020. Then, in the port of Antwerp, two consignments of cocaine weighing 720 kg and 650 kg (1370 kg in total) were intercepted.

Testimony against Promes was given by a certain resident of the city of Purmerend. He was detained in April of this year on suspicion of drug trafficking and money laundering. It is possible that the arrested person, trying to alleviate his fate, gave the authorities information about Promes.

It should be noted that, according to Dutch law, the smuggling of “hard” drugs is one of the serious crimes and is punishable by imprisonment for a term of 12 to 16 years.

Representatives of Promes have so far refrained from commenting. According to the publication Het Parool, Promes’ lawyer Robert Malevich promised to give an explanation no earlier than next Monday, when a preliminary hearing on the player’s case will take place in court. His participation in the process is not expected. On Saturday, “Spartak” is scheduled to play the final round of the championship of Russia (away against “Wings of the Soviets”). If successful, the red-whites can complete the championship with silver medals.

Quincy Promes got to Spartak for the first time back in 2014. He played for the red-and-whites until 2018, after which he played for Sevilla and Ajax. From the latter, he returned to Moscow in 2021, signing a contract for three and a half years. Promes cost Spartak €8.5 million (with bonuses, the cost could reach €11 million). The salary of the Dutchman in Russia, according to unofficial data, is about €3.5 million per season.

It is noteworthy that the transfer of Promes was carried out against the backdrop of another criminal trial in which he acted as an accused.

We are talking about the fact that Promes stabbed his cousin in the leg. Allegedly, the football player suspected the latter of stealing jewelry from his aunt.

Promes faced up to four years in prison, and his swift move to Spartak was seen by many as a way to avoid responsibility. Even then, Promes was suspected of being involved in drug smuggling, and therefore his phone was tapped. In one of the conversations, as the portal france24.com reported, he told his father: “It’s good that I don’t carry a gun with me anymore, otherwise it could all end much worse.” But in the end, the court appointed the forward a more lenient punishment – the payment of monetary compensation to the victim.
