The governor of the Brazilian state of Pernambuco protested the organizers of the World Cup in Qatar

Brazilian journalist Victor Pereira, who covers the matches of the World Cup in Qatar, spoke about the incident that took place on November 22 near the Lusail stadium.

According to Reuters, the journalist left the stadium after the end of the match between the teams of Argentina and Saudi Arabia. He was holding the flag of the northeastern Brazilian state of Pernambuco, which featured a rainbow, a red cross and a star. These symbols are historical and have nothing to do with LGBT and homosexual propaganda.

According to Pereira, a man in traditional Qatari clothing, a long white dishdashi shirt, suddenly approached him, snatched the flag of Pernambuco from his hands, threw it to the ground and began to stomp on it.

“I took my phone to record a video, but this person snatched it out of my hands and said that he would give me my phone back only if I deleted the video.” Pereira said.

The Qatari police officers who arrived at the scene of the incident sided with their compatriot.

“Then an officer arrived and tried to intervene. He grabbed the guy’s phone and ordered me to delete the video,” the Brazilian journalist added.

Pereira said he complied to make sure he gets his phone back as he uses it for work. His case hit the news on Tuesday after he uploaded a new video of the attack to a popular international social media site, showing a Qatari man trampling the Pernambuco state flag.

The video received a large number of views, and the governor of the state of Pernambuco, Paulo Camara, expressed solidarity with Pereira and asked the Qatari authorities to investigate this incident more thoroughly.

At the moment, it is not known what measures were taken by the organizers of the tournament to investigate what happened.
