Qatar’s Supreme Committee said it had apologized after security officials threatened a Danish film crew during a live broadcast from the emirate’s capital, Doha ahead of the World Cup.
TV2 reporter Rasmus Tantoldt was broadcasting his TV show live when he was approached by security personnel near the newly opened Chedi Hotel in Qatar’s Cultural Village.
The footage, which has gone viral on social media, shows Tantold coaxing security personnel by showing off his accreditation and then asking them not to break the camera and other TV equipment, asking, “You’ve invited the whole world here. Why can’t we shoot?”
The Qatari Supreme Committee said in a statement that the Danish television group’s live broadcast was “erroneously interrupted”.
“After checking the film crew’s valid accreditation to the tournament and filming permission, the security team on site issued an apology to the broadcaster before the film crew resumed their activities. In addition, the tournament organizers have spoken to the journalist and issued a recommendation to all officials to comply with the current permits for filming the tournament,” the statement said.
The Qatar High Committee for Shipping and Heritage (SC) was set up by the emirate’s government to plan and prepare for the World Cup.
