Last time Putin and Tokayev met November 28, 2022 in Moscow after the latter was re-elected to the post of President of Kazakhstan. Then the heads of state discussed creation of a “tripartite gas union” with Uzbekistan. Putin and Tokayev also signed a declaration on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. In it, the leaders of Russia and Kazakhstan called for joint capacity building of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). In addition, the parties agreed to expand cooperation on sanitary and epidemiological well-being, implement projects to combat infections, as well as strengthen cooperation in the energy sector, and create conditions for the transit of energy resources to third countries.
March 6 Putin and Tokayev held telephone conversations, during which they discussed bilateral trade relations in the energy, transport, logistics and humanitarian fields, and also agreed to further strengthen Russian-Kazakh allied relations.
