Russian President Vladimir Putin held a working meeting with Governor of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (YaNAO) Dmitry Artyukhov, reported Kremlin press office. During the talks, Mr. Artyukhov informed the president of his intention to run again in the elections for the head of the region. Vladimir Putin supported his decision and wished him good luck.
The President and Governor of the YaNAO discussed the socio-economic indicators of the region, the development of its transport system, including the Northern Latitudinal Railway and the port of Sabetta. Vladimir Putin pointed out that the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug is showing good results in terms of key indicators. “Nevertheless, there are also complex issues,” the President noted.
“2022, of course, is quite controversial. On the one hand, our physical volume is declining – it is clear that we are directly dependent on all geopolitical news. But in value terms, we see this in terms of GRP (gross regional product.— “b”), in terms of industrial production, we are growing – there were abnormally high prices,” the governor said.
Dmitry Artyukhov noted that, despite the decline in the physical volume of gas production in the region, in general, the indicators are growing. “And this, of course, is reflected in social well-being,” he added.
One of the priorities in the social sphere, the head of the YNAO called the increase in the birth rate. “Families with many children pose a very noble task for us to build schools and kindergartens. 25 schools, 25 kindergartens – this is what is actively being worked on now,” said Mr. Artyukhov. However, Vladimir Putin pointed out that the construction of schools in the region “still needs work.”
The term of office of Dmitry Artyukhov as head of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug expires in the autumn. In May 2018, he was appointed interim governor of the YNAO. In September of the same year, the deputies of the district legislative assembly elected Mr. Artyukhov (he was nominated by the United Russia party) as the head of the region by secret ballot.
The gubernatorial elections in Russia in 2023 will be held on the Single Voting Day, scheduled for September 10. In the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, the parliament will elect a new governor.
