Secretary of the General Council of United Russia Andrei Turchak later announced that the initiative group for the nomination of Vladimir Putin met today, December 16, to declare the current president a self-nominated candidate, reports “RIA News”.
“Today at the meeting of the organizing committee it will be announced that he does not come from any party – neither from United Russia, nor from our party. He will collect signatures,” Sergei Mironov told the agency on the sidelines of a meeting of the initiative group to nominate Vladimir Putin.
According to current legislation, self-nominated candidates must collect 300 thousand signatures in their support to participate in the elections. Candidates from five parties that have factions in the State Duma are exempt from this procedure. Candidates from parties that are not members of parliament must submit 100 thousand signatures to the Central Election Commission.
Vladimir Putin announced plans to run for a fifth presidential term on December 8. Today, in the Moscow Zaryadye Concert Hall, a meeting of a group of voters to nominate him is being held. Voting in the presidential elections will take place over three days, from March 15 to 17, 2024.
Former DPR Defense Minister Igor Strelkov and Dolgoprudny municipal deputy from the Union of Right Forces Boris Nadezhdin are also planning to run. Chairman of the Federal Political Committee of the Yabloko Party Grigory Yavlinsky will consider such an opportunity if 10 million signatures are collected in support of it.
