Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke at an expanded meeting of the collegium of the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office. In his speech, he said that the authorities should expand economic freedoms and lower administrative barriers in response to the sanctions of other countries.
“In recent years, a real sanctions aggression has been unleashed against our country, all of you know this well. But the Russian economy, domestic business, and entrepreneurs adequately respond to all these challenges, and it is important that prosecutors, within their competence, help in this large-scale work, including helping to eliminate excessive administrative barriers. We must respond to all actions by our ill-wishers and adversaries with one thing – the expansion of economic freedoms,” Mr. Putin said.
Vladimir Putin also called on the Prosecutor General’s Office to closely monitor the implementation of the state defense order and the allocation of funds for enterprises in the military-industrial complex. According to him, sufficient funds are allocated for these purposes. “Prosecutors must fight bribery and all sorts of corruption schemes fundamentally and toughly. I ask you to pay special attention to the supervision of legality in the field of the military-industrial complex and constantly keep these issues in our field of vision,” he said.
Mr. Putin instructed the department to step up work to protect the rights of participants in the military operation. “Protection by prosecutors of the fundamental rights of military personnel, participants and veterans of a special military operation, as well as members of their families, is of particular importance,” he said. In his opinion, work in this direction should be targeted. The President also called on the department to monitor the payment of salaries and social benefits, especially those allocated to support the most vulnerable categories of citizens – the elderly, low-income and large families.
Vladimir Putin also said that the prosecutor’s office has positive dynamics in the fight against extremism and terrorism, as well as crime and corruption. He urged the department to fight extremist movements more actively. “Prosecutors should be more active in counteracting extremism, this is another important area of work. As I already noted at a recent FSB board meeting, the number of such crimes increased last year,” Mr. Putin said.
