Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the inhabitants of the new regions of Russia are “our people”, so everything must be done to support them. He spoke about this at a meeting with participants of the II Congress of Young Scientists.
“These are our people, of course, we must do everything to support them,” the president said (quote according to TASS). According to him, “Fedorova, who lives in the Lugansk Republic” is no different from people with a similar surname in Novosibirsk, St. Petersburg or Moscow.
The head of state said earlier that the accession of Donbass to Russia should have happened earlier. “Now it has become obvious that this is a reunion [с Россией] should have happened earlier. Maybe there would not have been so many casualties among civilians, there would not have been so many dead children under shelling, ”the president emphasized.
On September 30, Putin and the heads of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions signed agreements on the annexation of the regions to Russia. Putin stressed that the inhabitants of the annexed territories “become citizens of the Russian Federation forever.” Referendums on the issue of joining the regions to the Russian Federation were held from 23 to 27 September. According to the results of calculations, 100% of ballots in the DPR and LPR supported joining Russia by 99.23% and 98.42% of those who voted, respectively, in Zaporozhye and Kherson regions – 93.11% and 87.05%, respectively.
