President Vladimir Putin signed decree on approval of the updated composition of the scientific council under the Russian Security Council. Secretary of the Security Council Nikolai Patrushev remained the chairman of the council, and First Deputy Secretary of the Security Council Rashid Nurgaliev was appointed deputy chairman. In total, the scientific council under the Security Council includes more than 150 people.
The Scientific Council under the Russian Security Council was created by presidential decree on November 1, 1993. It is entrusted with the functions of scientific and methodological assessment and forecasting of internal and external threats that affect the socio-economic development of the country and ensuring national security.
