Putin tightened the law on rallies

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a federal law amending certain legislative acts, including the law on rallies. According to the signed amendments, it is forbidden to hold rallies in the buildings of public authorities, as well as in close proximity to them.
In general, the federal law signed by the President, as it was declared in the State Duma, aimed at “improving the regulation of the status of a foreign agent.” Amendments to the law on rallies are introduced by Article 6 of the signed federal law.
According to the new changes, it will not be possible to hold meetings in the buildings of airports, railway and automobile stations, ports, in buildings and on the territory of universities, schools and hospitals, as well as land where churches are located.
Meetings and marches in Russia from now on will also be prohibited in the territories adjacent to life support facilities, including those that ensure the functioning of electrical, thermal, water and gas networks.
Previously, meetings, rallies, processions and demonstrations were prohibited only near the buildings of the presidential residences, courts, emergency operational services and institutions of the Federal Penitentiary Service.
