Putin supported the candidacy of the head of Yakutia in the autumn elections

Russian President Vladimir Putin held a working meeting with the head of Yakutia, Aisen Nikolaev, during which the head of state supported his candidacy for the nomination of the head of the region in the autumn elections. This was announced by the press secretary of the Russian leader Dmitry Peskov.

Nikolaev told Putin that he is working to ensure that the region is “as always in history, a strong economic rear of our state in this difficult time.” The President noted that the region as a whole has good indicators in terms of natural population growth and the growth of the resident population. The head of Yakutia explained that such results were achieved thanks to the policy of supporting the Far East.

Nikolaev also said that companies in the coal sector are developing well, and invited the president “on behalf of the Yakut people, on behalf of Elgaugol” to come in 2024 and visit “the largest construction site in the country.” “When everything is already working, the airfield will have its own, which will be able to receive large aircraft, the Tu-204, for example, will be able to receive. We now have openings there every month,” Nikolaev said.

The head of the region said that in 2022 an experiment was conducted in Yakutia. According to him, to prevent fires, rains were caused with the help of aviation. In 2023, the service area in the region was increased by 20 million hectares – up to 70. The authorities expect this will reduce the burning of forests.

Nikolaev headed the Republic of Sakha in 2018. Prior to that, he led Yakutsk for almost six years.
