Putin spoke about the mission of the Bashkirs to protect Russia

Vladimir Putin, who visited Bashkiria today in connection with the funeral of its first president, Murtaza Rakhimov, told reporters about the republic’s special place in Russian military history and politics.
Speaking, for example, about the Patriotic War of 1812, as well as the Patriotic War of 1941-1945, the President noted the responsible attitude of the Bashkirs to the defense of the state. He also noted that even before becoming part of the Russian Empire, the Bashkirs served in the defense of its borders.
“Bashkiria almost completely put the entire male population from the age of 15 on a horse, armed and sent to fight the enemy (in 1812 – ed.). <...> Therefore, it is not surprising for me that even today, when solving problems in the course of the NMD to protect our people in the Donbass, Kherson region, Zaporozhye, the republic behaves in the same way,” Izvestia quotes the words of the head of state.
