Putin signs law banning forced collection of biometrics

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law establishing a ban on the forced collection of biometric data of Russians, as well as any discrimination against those who refused to surrender it. Corresponding document published on the Legal Information Portal.
The adopted law fixes the voluntary status of the delivery of biometrics, and the collection of biometrics of minors will be carried out only with the consent of the parents. Refusal to submit biometrics can be issued in writing through any branch of the MFC. Citizens who do not want to provide biometric data will not be able to be denied services, including state and municipal services, any discrimination or denial of services in connection with this will be punished.
State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin previously noted that various commercial organizations are engaged in the uncontrolled collection of biometrics of Russians, while the data often leaks and falls into the hands of attackers. In accordance with the adopted law, all biometric data of citizens will be placed and processed in a single state system, and the types of biometrics collected are limited to a face image and a voice sample.
In addition, you can revoke your previously given consent to the processing of biometrics at any time. For minor children, this can be done by parents or guardians.
