Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on holding the World Friendship Games in 2024 in Moscow and Yekaterinburg. The document states that the games are held in order to ensure free access for Russians to international sports activities.
According to the decree published on the official Internet portal legal information, the government has been instructed to organize an organizing committee for the preparation and holding of competitions. The government and authorities of Moscow and the Sverdlovsk region must prepare a set of measures for holding the games.
The main activities plan must be established within two months. The main expenses are planned to be financed from budget funds, as well as “other sources”.
Today, October 19, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko at the plenary session of the forum “Russia is a Sports Power” announced that about 5.5 thousand athletes will take part in the games. The total prize fund will be 4.6 billion rubles. The World Friendship Games will be held from September 15 to 29, 2024.
