Putin said that the West’s calculation to destroy the Russian economy did not materialize

With the help of unprecedented sanctions, Western countries wanted to “crush” the Russian economy, but their calculations did not materialize. This statement was made by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting of the Council for Strategic Development and National Projects.

“Unprecedented sanctions aggression has been launched against Russia. It was aimed at, in a short time, essentially crushing our economy, through the robbery of our foreign exchange reserves, to collapse the national currency – the ruble – and provoke destructive inflation. Putin attributed the failure of the West’s plans to the composure of Russian entrepreneurs and authorities, as well as the solidarity of Russians.

The President of the Russian Federation said that by the end of the year, GDP is expected to decline by 2.5%. He recalled that back in the spring, the Russian economy was predicted “a collapse of 20%”. Putin also declaredthat the Russian ruble has become one of the strongest currencies in the world. According to him, this result was achieved thanks to the regulation of capital outflow, the transfer of gas payments to rubles, settlements with trading partners in national currencies, as well as a responsible financial policy.

Back in the summer, during the St. Petersburg Economic Forum, the Russian leader announced the failure of Western sanctions against Russia. According to him, it was not possible to destroy the country’s economy because of the cohesion of Russian business. At the same time, he noted the “madness and thoughtlessness” of the restrictions.

In July, Putin again expressed the view that Western sanctions had not achieved their goals. According to him, the West wanted to sow discord in society with the help of restrictions, but it failed to do so. At the same time, he acknowledged that sanctions create problems for the Russian economy, but “not the kind that the initiators of the economic blitzkrieg were counting on.”
