Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the population of Russia came out as a united front against the armed rebellion of PMC Wagner. According to the head of state, at the present time “the people of Russia are more united than ever.”

“In the current situation, our country continues to develop steadily. The Russian people are more consolidated than ever,” Mr. Putin said during his speech at the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) via video link.

According to him, the citizens of the country, Russian public figures and politicians refused to support the organizers of the armed rebellion and unanimously supported the authorities of the Russian Federation. The President believes that now in Russian society “one can observe a high responsibility for the fate of the Fatherland.”

Vladimir Putin also separately thanked leaders of the SCO member states for their support during the attempted rebellion. The head of state said that a hybrid war is now being waged against Russia, but the country confidently “resists and will resist external pressure, sanctions and provocations.”

On the evening of June 23, Yevgeny Prigozhin, the founder of PMC Wagner, announced a “march of justice” against Moscow. The Russian authorities considered this an armed rebellion and opened a criminal case. On the evening of June 24, with the mediation of the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, the situation was settled: the fighters agreed to leave for field camps, Mr. Prigozhin himself left for Belarus. Against the backdrop of these events, Vladimir Putin held a series of telephone conversations with foreign colleagues who expressed support for the Russian president.
