Putin said he trusts the IAEA report on the situation at the Zaporozhye NPP

The report of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on the situation at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant can be trusted, despite the fact that the nuclear agency is under pressure from the US and the EU, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum (WEF).

“Yes, I absolutely trust this report. The IAEA is a responsible international organization and its leader is a very professional person. They are, of course, under pressure from the countries where they work, including the United States and European countries, and cannot directly say that the shelling comes from Ukrainian territory. But these are obvious things,” the president said.

At the same time, he noted that there is no Russian military equipment on the territory of the ZNPP, which the IAEA proposes to remove. Equipment, including those operating as part of counter-battery combat, is located outside the station’s perimeter, Putin concluded.

On September 6, the IAEA published a report on the results of the mission to the ZNPP. The organization called for an end to attacks on the station and the establishment of a safe zone around it. At the same time, experts did not specify who was shelling the object. The report also says that several events have been recorded at the ZNPP since the spring that violate the principles of nuclear safety, and that members of the delegation themselves witnessed the shelling.

On September 1, the IAEA mission arrived at the ZNPP territory due to regular shelling of the station during August. Experts inspected the area, accompanied by representatives of the Russian “Rosatom” and employees of the nuclear power plant. The delegations also showed the sections of the facility that had suffered from shelling by the Ukrainian military. At present, there are two IAEA specialists as permanent observers at the NPP.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, in turn, noted that Moscow needed additional clarifications from the IAEA on the report.
