Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the Central Clinical Hospital (TsKB), where he said goodbye to Mikhail Gorbachev. According to his press secretary Dmitry Peskov, the farewell ceremony, which will be held on September 3, the president will not be able to attend due to the busy schedule. Mr. Peskov also added that there would be a guard of honor at the farewell ceremony.
“We know that the farewell ceremony will take place on September 3, the funeral, but, unfortunately, the president’s work schedule will not allow him to do it on September 3, so he decided to do it today,” Peskov said during a press call.
When asked by reporters about the status of the funeral, the spokesman said there would be elements of a state funeral at the farewell ceremony. “There will be elements of a state funeral in the sense that there will be a guard of honor. Farewell will be arranged. In this case, here the state will assist in organizing these funerals, ”explained Mr. Peskov.
Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev died on August 30 after a long illness. Earlier, Gorbachev’s daughter Irina said that his funeral would take place on September 3 at the Novodevichy cemetery.
