Putin responded in German to attacks against former German Chancellor Schröder

Russian President Vladimir Putin commented on the attacks on former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder, which are taking place in Germany due to the politician’s cooperation with Russia in the past.

Now, according to Zarubin, he is “experiencing humiliation”; at important events he is placed away from the current Chancellor Olaf Scholz, “just so as not to end up in the same frame with him.”
Commenting on this situation, Putin recalled a recent incident in the Canadian parliament, when a Ukrainian nationalist was mistakenly honored there.
“So, I want to say: the farther from Schröder, the closer to Anthony Rothe, the head of the Canadian parliament, who sympathizes with the Nazis,” the president said, repeating this phrase in German so that he could be “heard in Germany.”
The head of state added that there are “many decent people” in Germany and expressed confidence that he will be heard.
On September 22, Speaker of the House of Commons Anthony Rota invited Ukrainian nationalist Yaroslav Gunko (Hunke) to a meeting of the Canadian Parliament with the participation of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. The SS veteran was presented as a war hero and honored with applause. Rota later apologized “to every Holocaust survivor and World War II veteran” and then resigned. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called the incident a disgrace “for all of Canada” and also apologized to Zelensky and the Ukrainian delegation “for the position in which they were placed.”
Putin noted, that if Rota knew that Hunka fought on the side of Hitler, and at the same time called him a hero of Ukraine and a hero of Canada, “then he is a scoundrel.” The Russian president called the honoring of Hunka “savagery.” Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov noted that the Canadian authorities are obliged to extradite and bring Gunko to justice.
