Putin reiterated the need to create an independent state of Palestine

It is necessary to create an independent state of Palestine with its capital in East Jerusalem. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the CIS Member States in a narrow format.

“The main thing now, after all, is to stop the bloodshed. Collective efforts are more than needed in the interests of an early ceasefire and stabilization of the situation on earth,” the Russian president emphasized.

According to Putin, Russia proceeds “from the assumption that there is no alternative to resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict through negotiations.”

“Their goal should be the implementation of the UN two-state formula, which involves the creation of an independent Palestinian state with its capital in East Jerusalem, coexisting in peace and security with Israel,” the president said.

Putin also spoke about plans to prepare a ground operation in Gaza.

“The use of heavy equipment in residential areas is a complex matter with serious consequences for all parties. And without technology, it means that carrying out these operations in the same residential buildings is even more difficult. But the most important thing is that losses among civilians will be absolutely unacceptable – almost 2 million people live there,” the head of state emphasized.

October 11 Putin statedthat Russia has always advocated the implementation of the UN Security Council decision on the creation of an independent Palestinian state. The President of the Russian Federation also noted that both in the United States and Israel there are politicians and experts who hold a similar point of view. According to him, it is impossible to overcome the problem “as a whole” without solving “fundamental political issues.”

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also expressed hope for the creation of a Palestinian state after the end of the conflict – based on the principles approved by the UN.

On October 7, the Palestinian group Hamas began military operations against Israel. The militants attacked the army’s border units and entered Israeli settlements, taking hostages from among both military and civilians. The Israeli Army (IDF) responded by launching Operation Iron Swords. Israel announced that the country had entered a state of war. According to the latest data, the death toll in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict has exceeded 2,800 people. The death toll on the Israeli side reached 1,300 people, and on the Palestinian side – more than 1,500.
