Putin ratified dual citizenship agreement with Abkhazia

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a federal law ratifying the agreement between Russia and Abkhazia on allowing dual citizenship. The document was published on the official Internet portal of legal information.
The law assumes that a person with dual citizenship has the right to social security, education, medical care in accordance with the legislation of the country in which he lives. The document also states that military service is carried out according to the same principle, and after it a person is exempted from conscription in another country.
Under the new rules, Russia gives the right to a simplified procedure for obtaining a passport to those persons who had citizenship of Abkhazia on August 26, 2008, have not lost it today and have reached the age of majority.
By law, the nationality of children under the age of 14 must be the same as that of their parents. At the same time, the citizenship of the child does not change when the citizenship of his parents deprived of parental rights changes.
The agreement on the settlement of dual citizenship between Russia and Abkhazia was signed on September 27, 2022.
