Russian President Vladimir Putin stated the need to promote different sports “in a modern” and “creative” way. He cited statistics from the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation for 2016–2022, according to which the increase in figure skating in Russia is 350%.
“It is clear that this is a traditionally favorite sport in our country, but, among other things, they know how to promote themselves, show off beautifully, show in such a way that it looks good,” the head of state said at meeting Council on Physical Education and Sports (quote from TASS).
According to the Ministry of Sports, the increase in cycling is 132%, chess – 63%, aerobics – 60%, rhythmic gymnastics – 48%, swimming – 40%. “And table tennis is a measly 5%, although a tennis table can be placed, if not in every apartment, then on every landing,” said Vladimir Putin.
In general, over the past four years, the number of Russians systematically involved in sports has increased from 40% to 53%. How stated Vladimir Putin today, October 19, at the international forum “Russia is a Sports Power”, in 2024 it is necessary to attract up to 55% of citizens, and by 2030 – 70%. As part of the forum, the President took part in the opening of sports facilities in five regions of Russia via video link.
