Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the issue regarding interest payments on loans to participants in the special military operation will be resolved within two to three weeks.
“A person, when he is in a combat zone, he does not pay the loan and does not pay interest, but they accumulate. True, they accumulate along a decreasing trajectory, because it is believed that although the loan is not paid, but if it were paid, its value decreases, and therefore the interest decreases,” said the head of state (quoted by Interfax).
“Then what happens: a person returns from the NWO zone, he also doesn’t pay anything for 30 days, and only a month later these legal credit relations with a financial organization, with a bank, are resumed. He begins to pay the loan amount and current interest. When he pays everything off, then comes the time to pay the interest that has accumulated during the period when these credit holidays were in progress,” Mr. Putin explained.
“This issue must be resolved, and we will resolve it within two to three weeks. That is, I believe this: a person has arrived, the holidays are over, a month has passed – normal relations with the credit institution begin, good. Both interest and repayment of the debt. And nothing that has accumulated should be paid anymore, and nothing should accumulate, no interest,” the president said at a meeting with student participants of the SVO.
In addition, the president said that he would ask the Ministry of Finance and regional authorities to extend an exemption from property tax to family members of SVO participants. According to him, this issue should also be resolved within two to three weeks.
Participants in the military operation, mobilized and volunteers, received the right to credit holidays or to write off consumer and mortgage loans from October 7, 2022. Spouses and children of military personnel can also apply for credit holidays. In December 2023, the right to credit holidays for participants in military operations on the territory of Ukraine was extended until the end of 2024.
