Putin ordered to increase the computing power of supercomputers in Russia

President Vladimir Putin instructed the government to implement a set of measures aimed at increasing the computing power of supercomputers in the country. The list of instructions given following the results of the conference “Journey into the World of Artificial Intelligence” was published on website Kremlin.

Among Mr. Putin’s instructions:

• submit proposals for additional funding from the budget for research and development in the field of generative artificial intelligence (AI);
• analyze the needs of employers for employees with new skills and competencies, and based on the results of this analysis, make changes to professional standards and state educational standards;
• provide measures to support the development and implementation of large generative models and technological solutions in the field of AI, as well as the creation of infrastructure for their widespread use;
• develop and implement a set of measures aimed at increasing the computing power of supercomputers located in Russia, and determine specific parameters for increasing this capacity;
• ensure the development of large generative models for their use in key sectors of the economy;.
• develop and submit proposals for interaction between Russian software developers in the field of AI and developers of such software from “friendly” countries;
• include issues related to the formation of ethical standards in the field of AI, balanced regulation and scientific and technical cooperation in this area on the agenda of BRICS meetings in 2024.

This year, a national project was launched in Russia aimed at developing the economy based on data generated in digital systems – both business and government. It became a continuation of the completing national project “Digital Economy”. The initiative also proposes the development of a program for the creation and purchase of components and the construction of supercomputers in the Russian Federation.
