President Vladimir Putin via video link took part at the opening ceremony of new and renovated road facilities in five regions. Among these objects is a bridge over the Kalmius River in Mariupol, Donetsk People’s Republic. The bridge is part of the land road from Rostov-on-Don to Crimea.
“The major repairs of the bridge in Mariupol have been completed, which will restore transport links between several districts of the city. But what is especially important is that this project will speed up movement along the Novorossiya federal highway towards Crimea and increase its transport accessibility,” Vladimir Putin said at the beginning of the ceremony.
The bridge is a key element of the road network of Mariupol and has a total length of 141 m. It is part of the M-14 highway. Restoration work took 11 months. From 30 to 60 people worked at the site around the clock.
The ceremony also announced the opening of a bridge over the Svir River in the Leningrad Region, the start of traffic on the repaired sections of the P-217 Caucasus highway in Dagestan, as well as on sections of the P-242 Perm-Ekaterinburg road in the Sverdlovsk Region. Transport interchanges on the M-4 Don highway have opened in the Krasnodar Territory.
The ceremony was attended by the heads of five regions: the head of Dagestan Sergei Melikov, the head of the Sverdlovsk region Evgeny Kuyvashev, the head of the DPR Denis Pushilin, the head of the Leningrad region Alexander Drozdenko, the head of the Krasnodar region Veniamin Kondratiev. After their speeches, Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin reported to the president about the readiness of the facilities and asked Vladimir Putin to allow their opening. “I have permission, let’s go,” the president replied.
As a result of the fighting in the spring of 2022, all road bridges in Mariupol were destroyed. On September 1 of this year, Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin reported about the start of traffic on the bridge over the Kalchik River in Mariupol, which Avtodor Group of Companies specialists practically rebuilt in seven months. Then Mr. Khusnullin reported that the repair of 70 km of roads in Mariupol was being completed, and six more bridges were continuing to be repaired.
