Vladimir Putin promised to talk in detail about his meeting with the head of North Korea, and Lukashenko suggested thinking “for three.” “There will be a piece of work for Belarus too,” he is sure.

The leaders of Russia and Belarus have always maintained close contacts, but this year has broken all records. Lukashenko came to Vladimir Putin every month except January, March and August. And when he didn’t come, the presidents always called each other by phone. And often more than once.

This visit to Sochi turned out to be spontaneous. Neither Moscow nor Minsk reported anything in advance: the fact that the old man was flying somewhere became known from a telegram channel, which is believed to be run by his press secretary Natalya Eismont. The exact destination of the presidential plane was not indicated in the message: only when the plane was already in the air did the Kremlin clarify that the meeting would take place in Sochi. And this is not at all surprising: it’s the velvet season on the Black Sea coast.

The fact that the old man was going not only to work, but also to relax, was also evidenced by his relaxed appearance. Lukashenko got off the plane wearing a sports jacket and sneakers. I came to see Putin without the obligatory tie for official events. By the way, in contrast to negotiations with Erdogan and other guests from far abroad, whom the GDP has recently been receiving at the Rus sanatorium, negotiations with the Belarusian leader took place at the residence of the head of state – Bocharov Ruchey.

Outlining the topic of the meeting, Vladimir Putin put economic issues and the issues of the Union State in the first place.

“We have mutual obligations in this regard. There is a need, it seems to me, to compare notes on some issues,” he said. Putin recalled that he recently met with the leader of North Korea, held a discussion with him about the situation in the region, and there is also something to talk about. “And, of course, (we will talk) about our most pressing issue – the situation in the Ukrainian direction, around the Ukrainian crisis,” he clarified.

Alexander Lukashenko immediately understood what obligations the president was hinting at within the Union State. “There were not just interruptions, but some difficulties in the fuel market. We stabilized the situation, supplied as much as the Russian Federation needed, as much as the government asked, in my opinion, 60 thousand each of diesel fuel and gasoline,” Lukashenko assured, commenting on the fuel crisis that has been ongoing in the Russian Federation since the beginning of August. He made it clear that the reduction in compensation (damper) that Belarusian producers receive from the Russian budget will not affect the supply of the fraternal state: “If it is necessary to further reduce supplies to foreign markets and increase domestic consumption, this is not a problem.” However, knowing the dad, it cannot be ruled out that the damper issue will eventually turn into a subject of bargaining.

Lukashenko could not hide his admiration for the endurance of the Russian president, who worked all week under conditions of severe jet lag (the time difference with the Far East is 7 hours), returned to Moscow for one day to hold the Security Council, and again flew to Sochi. “It’s a very difficult time for you – after all, flights are like that – and you found time to consult, discuss our actions for the future,” he said with a feeling of either gratitude or surprise.

Vladimir Putin recalled that he also visited several large construction projects, in particular in gas chemistry. And on the spot I became convinced that the West also failed to slow down the development of this industry. “We have restored all competencies! Absolutely everything! Huge world-scale enterprises will be introduced in the near future. Yes, indeed, something has to be shifted, in some places we have to behave more modestly, but the gain is obvious,” Putin said with enthusiasm, promising to further delve into this topic during the negotiations. But Lukashenko immediately understood the main thing. “They tried to bend us tightly, but nothing happened. On the contrary, they somehow mobilized,” he confirmed.

And as an allover, he promised to tell Putin about his meeting with “a very famous and advanced person” – the leader of Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Obiang Nguema, who recently visited Belarus (Putin’s meeting with Mr. Nguema was supposed to take place on June 27, but after the coup attempt on June 24 it was canceled without explanation).

Usually, after the protocol part, the leaders retire for negotiations, and upon their completion, if necessary and by mutual agreement, they go to the journalists. However, this time everything did not go according to script, and questions from the media came immediately after Putin and Lukashenko exchanged opening remarks.

Apparently, the Kremlin has an urgent need to comment on the most resonant topics of the week that have nothing to do with Russian-Belarusian relations. In particular, Putin was asked to talk about military-technical cooperation with the DPRK and the prospects for negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.

However, when asking the last question, its author for some reason misinterpreted the words of Antony Blinken, who, speaking about the possibility of a peace process, used the well-known English idiom “it takes two to tango” (for tango – that is, for negotiations – it takes two) In the journalist’s interpretation the Secretary of State’s phrase sounded as follows: “Russia and Ukraine will still dance their tango.” And Vladimir Putin categorically did not like this.

“Tango is, of course, good. But for Ukraine it is important not to forget the hopak,” he remarked sarcastically, “Otherwise they will all the time dance to someone else’s music and to someone else’s tune.” And by the way, one way or another, everyone will have to dance as a lady, or, at best, a Cossack girl.”

As for the negotiations, everything is the same: Russia, according to GDP, has never refused them. If the other side wants it, “let him say it directly.” But so far we haven’t heard anything.

The President assured that the Russian army does not need volunteers from the DPRK – 300 thousand Russians have already signed contracts. Yes, they get paid for it. But this is not the main thing – first of all, men, according to Putin, are guided by the highest patriotic considerations. He emphasized that, while developing relations with the DPRK, the Kremlin is aware of “certain features associated with the Korean Peninsula.” (Referring to the sanctions of the UN Security Council) “We never violate anything and in this case we are not going to violate anything,” he assured.
