Russian President Vladimir Putin asked the Cabinet of Ministers to pay special attention to the integration of new regions of the country into the general education system. He spoke about the importance of this process at the opening ceremony of new schools in the regions.

Putin also noted the importance of a radical update of the entire educational infrastructure of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, because problems in these regions “had been accumulating for years, if not decades.”

“This academic year was held by the schools of Donbass, Zaporozhye, Kherson region according to Russian standards. Preparations for this began in April 2022, when programs were launched to improve the skills of teachers, provide schools with textbooks, and repair school buildings. I ask the Russian government to continue to pay special attention to solving the problems of integrating schools, colleges and universities in new regions into the country’s unified education system. This is one of the key issues of integration,” the President stressed.

Schools in the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR), as well as in the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions have crossed to the new Russian educational standards (FGOS) from September 1, 2022. Teachers in these regions were previously trained according to the Russian program.

The new regions became part of the Russian Federation following the results of referendums on September 30, 2022. Since October of the same year, by decree of the President of the Russian Federation, martial law has been introduced in the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions due to regular shelling from Ukraine.
