President Vladimir Putin discussed with the Governor of the Volgograd Region Andrei Bocharov the growth of industrial production in the region, the development of agricultural production and maintaining the level of investment. At the same time, the head of state drew attention to the decline in the birth rate in the Volgograd region. Mr. Bocharov said that the authorities are working on this issue.

“You have a lot of investment projects, I see, and they are different, from different industries. This, of course, creates confidence in the development of the region’s economy in the medium term and even in the longer term, because this means jobs and economic development in the broadest sense of the word, increasing various competencies,” the president said during a conversation with Andrei Bocharov via video link (quote from website Kremlin).

At the same time, Vladimir Putin drew attention to the fact that the share of emergency housing in the Volgograd region remains quite high, and the birth rate in the region is two times lower than in Russia as a whole. “Andrey Ivanovich, the birth rate has decreased twice as much as in the country. Still, twice is too much. Volgograd is such a good, beautiful place,” the president said. “We are working, Vladimir Vladimirovich, on this task. We believe that we need to introduce additional support measures here. We are considering them, we understand what we need to do,” the governor replied.

At the end of the meeting, Andrei Bocharov told Vladimir Putin about his intention to run for a new term as head of the region and asked to support his decision. “Andrey Ivanovich, the work is really big, a lot has been done. “Everything is on track for you, as they say, and I certainly wish you good luck,” the president said.

Andrey Bocharov was first elected governor of the Volgograd region in September 2014. In September 2019, his second term as head of the region began. The next gubernatorial elections will be held in September 2024.
