“Today, more than 10 km of track is being put into operation. Of course, this is only a small fraction, because in total there were almost 100 km of tram tracks in the city. But this is only the beginning, the first stage of work in this area. Subsequently, we will develop the transport infrastructure of the city, including increasing the number of routes, updating the long-outdated public transport fleet,” the president said (quoted from site Kremlin).
Vladimir Putin noted that the resumption of tram traffic in Mariupol is only part of the work being done not only in the Donbass, but also in the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. “Roads, housing, educational, healthcare and energy facilities are being built and repaired here, industrial and agricultural production is being established,” the president listed the stages of work. According to him, the authorities will continue to solve the issues necessary to ensure that “life in the cities and towns of these regions returns to normal.”
The head of state stressed that the project to repair tram tracks in Mariupol is being implemented with the assistance of the government of St. Petersburg. He also thanked all the Russian regions that provide support to the new subjects of Russia.
In August 2022, the Ministry of Construction developed plan for the restoration of Mariupol. The project is designed for three years. The city is going to build 1.03 million square meters. m of apartment buildings, social facilities and transport infrastructure, equip embankments, parks. In November, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin declaredthat a three-year plan to rebuild the city can be completed in two years. By November last year, Russian builders managed to restore 150 houses.
