Russian President Vladimir Putin opened traffic on the eastern bypass of Aksai and the far western bypass of Krasnodar. The head of state participated in the opening ceremony via videoconference.

“I’m asking for permission to launch,” said Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin, who took part in the ceremony. In response, Putin replied: “I allow it.”

Putin noted that “more convenient highways” launched well ahead of schedule, they will increase the economic potential of southern Russia. He thanked all the participants of the projects.

The President expressed hope that high dynamics of road works will be maintained in Russia. In 2022, more than 6,000 km of federal highways were repaired and more than 20,000 km of regional roads were built. The results of the first months of 2023 showed that work is being carried out at an exceeding pace, Putin said. Roads in the Donetsk and Lugansk republics, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions will be given special attention.

The construction and reconstruction of bypasses on the M-4 Don highway were carried out on behalf of the president. The eastern bypass of the satellite city of Rostov-on-Don Aksay is 65 km, the bypass of Krasnodar is 51 km. During construction, a four-lane bridge across the Don was erected. The launch of traffic on these sections should unload the entrances to Rostov-on-Don and Krasnodar. The authorities expect that the implementation of the projects will speed up the traffic flow along the highway and have a positive impact on the environment and economic development of cities.
