Russian President Vladimir Putin launched traffic on the fourth section of the M12 highway from Moscow to Arzamas, reported “RIA News”.
“I allow it. Let’s go,” the president said. The road launch ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin, Transport Minister Vitaly Savelyev, Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyov and Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.
Khusnullin told reporters that the section of the highway was built “in the shortest possible time.” “From idea to launch [прошло] less than three years, and we believe that this road will certainly give a tremendous impetus to the development of all regions,” he said.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the section connected five main regions, and the “gravity zone” included 17 regions, home to 30 million residents.
The total length of the section between the capital and Arzamas is 415 km, the road connects Moscow, Moscow, Vladimir and Nizhny Novgorod regions. The section to Kazan is planned to be completed in December of this year, after which the travel time between the cities will be reduced to 6.5 hours from the current 12.
