President Vladimir Putin announced the beginning of the Year of the Family in the country at the “Russia” exhibition at VDNKh. Also, during a meeting with the winners of the “Family of the Year” and “It’s Our Family” competitions, the head of state shared memories of his own family and his father.
“Of course, family values consolidate society. I will say more: Russia is truly a huge family, one might say “a family of families.” After all, people of different nationalities have lived here for centuries in peace and harmony, and the diversity of their cultures, languages, and customs does not divide, but, on the contrary, unites Russia,”— noted head of state.
The President also noted that the family should be at the center of state policy and that the effectiveness of the authorities should be determined based on the interests of the family and the growth of its well-being. “It is the family that should be at the center of all government policy. Well, that’s what we’re trying to do,” he said, adding that the Russians’ proposals aimed at supporting the family will definitely be worked out.
While communicating with the winners of family competitions, Vladimir Putin also shared memories of his father. “Firstly, I never, I want to emphasize this, never saw my father drunk. Actually, this has never happened before. I’m talking about my mother. I never heard a single swear word from him. At all. Well, I’m not even talking about my mother. You know, responsibility comes from the little things. I remember how my father was on the stairs, such an extension, we lived in a communal apartment, and the electric meter was on the landing, I remember how he crawled and wrote out, you know, down to the penny, everything that needed to be paid for electricity. And he did everything on time,” the president said.
Today, January 23, Vladimir Putin signed Decree on measures of social support for large families, which sets out their status and conditions for benefits. According to the decree, a large family is a family with three or more children. Previously, each subject himself determined how many minor children should be raised in a family for it to be considered large.
Previously, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova reportedthat the number of large families has increased by 27% over five years. The number of families raising three or more children, according to her, was 2.3 million.
