Putin laid flowers on the Nevsky patch and visited the Piskarevskoye cemetery

President Vladimir Putin attended a ceremony in honor of the 80th anniversary of the lifting of the siege of Leningrad at the Piskarevskoye cemetery in St. Petersburg. The President also laid flowers at the “Boundary Stone” monument on Nevsky Patch. Interfax reported this.
The President laid a bouquet of red roses with a mourning ribbon at the base of the “Boundary Stone”. The flower-laying ceremony was accompanied by the melody of Lev Gurov’s song “Silence”, performed by the bugler of the honor guard.
Nevsky Piglet is the name of a bridgehead on the left bank of the Neva, which was held by Soviet troops of the Leningrad Front during the Battle of Leningrad. The bridgehead is considered a symbol of the courage and perseverance of Soviet soldiers in this battle.
Vladimir Putin also laid flowers at the Piskarevskoye cemetery to honor the memory of the victims of the Great Patriotic War. Interfax notes that the president’s brother, Victor, lies in one of the mass graves in the cemetery; he died during the siege at a young age in the winter of 1942. Vladimir Putin laid red roses at the mass grave, and then walked along the alley from the Eternal Flame to the Motherland monument.
Today, January 27, Russia celebrates the Day of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the fascist blockade. The siege of Leningrad lasted 872 days – from September 8, 1941 to January 27, 1944.
