President Vladimir Putin assigned flowers to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Kremlin wall in the Alexander Garden on Defender of the Fatherland Day. During the ceremony, military personnel of the presidential regiment placed a wreath of scarlet roses at the memorial.
The laid wreath was intertwined with a ribbon in the colors of the Russian flag. The wreath also had the inscription: “To the Unknown Soldier from the Russian Federation.”
The memorial ceremony was attended by the head of the Ministry of Defense Sergei Shoigu, military veterans and students of Suvorov military schools. They also laid flowers at the memorial. The ceremony ended with the march of the honor guard company.
Vladimir Putin lays flowers at the memorial every year on February 23. The ashes of the Unknown Soldier of the Great Patriotic War were transferred to the Alexander Garden from a mass grave in the Moscow region in 1966.
