Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the government to create an updated list of the most important high-tech technologies. According to him, this document is equal in importance to the national security strategy.

“I consider it necessary to create an updated list of the most important and necessary high-tech technologies for the country. And in general, update the priority areas for the development of domestic science,” Vladimir Putin said at a meeting of the Council on Science and Education (quote from “RIA News”).

The President added that the draft decree approving the document must be submitted for signature within a week. All clarifications and additions must be made taking into account the “long-term forecast of scientific and technological development.”

The decision to adjust the list, as Vladimir Putin added, was made taking into account deep political and technological transformations. He clarified that Russia must provide itself with its own technologies, materials and means of production. The President also ordered to increase funding for Russian science.

Currently, high technology in Russia includes the aerospace industry, the production of computers and electronic communications, and the pharmaceutical industry.
