Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a visit to the Obukhov plant in St. Petersburg, said that he had instructed the government to index the public sector in January. The head of state called the level of well-being of citizens a key issue.
Vladimir Putin noted that a lot has been done within the budgetary sphere, “but, unfortunately, much has not been brought to the level that was planned.”
“We will continue to work in this direction. In this regard, the government has instructions to carry out indexation in the public sector as early as January,” Mr. Putin said. He also recalled the May decrees, according to which indexation will be carried out.
In May 2012, Vladimir Putin instructed the government to increase the average salaries of teachers, junior and middle medical staff and social workers to 100% of the average salaries in the region. The salaries of doctors, university teachers and scientists were instructed to increase up to 200%. The government has been given six years to do this.
By 2018, the indexation of salaries to the required level was carried out only in a few regions of Russia.
